This Week Under The Book Shepherd’s Roof:

Hello and Good Publishing Day to all of you.

WHEW! It was a hot one in Dallas, Texas – inside and out! Outside, it kissed 104 degrees this past weekend. Pre the conference, authors Marian Hays, JoAnn Wagner, Rox Burkey and I spent the afternoon at the George W Bush Library. Each one is so unique—a bit of a history lesson and view of items that were important to the President as President and family life. I’ve made a habit to spend half a day when I’m in the city that is host to a presidential library. My first one was the Truman Library 20 years ago and I was hooked. Try it; I’ll bet you’ll be adding this to your must see/experience list.
At the conference, inside, sizzling hot ideas were flowing at the annual Texas Authors Marketing Conference that I had the pleasure of presenting three workshops. Audiobook Richard Rieman was there as well, speaking to a standing room only authors who devoured every word he said.

Bravo to the authors who won book awards on the final evening and to Alan Bourgeous who puts it together. I had a great time.

MEET me when I’m on the road. Next up is the deep diving with authors from Colorado and multiple states in Breckenridge, CO August 23-26;  Michigan authors at the Booktoberfest in Dexter, MI on September 8; Alaskan authors in Anchorage, AK September 20-22; and Florida authors in Altamonte Springs, Florida October 18-20. It’s a busy fall coming.
You can pick my brain … minimum time is 30 minutes.
If you need one-on-one-time with me, I’m always open for a few minutes to give you some quick input. But, and it’s a BIG BUT, many call and expect far more than a few minutes. This is called a "consult" and I would be delighted to schedule time with you for "just you and your many questions" that need answers. You can book time with me it at:

Author Friendly Friday this week …

It’s a full hour when you can ask questions—any question. And, I always include a few strategies to get your authoring life ahead of the competition. It’s for paid subscribers ONLY and we do it on Skype.
This is how each call starts: I share a few strategies, tips and tools that attendees can immediately start to use. All share … and ask plenty of questions. They get answers. Definitely an excellent way to start a Friday. Those of you who aren’t participating, you are making a mistake. I love the variety of books and authors who have chosen to participate. What’s also fun, is the energy that can be felt with what everyone is working on. Love it!

Bring Videos with you when you travel …

You can download videos from the web onto your PC so they are readily accessible when you want them. This is ideal for watching videos when Internet access is not always available like on flights or your commute to work.

Make videos to post to YouTube and your website plus wherever you want to drop them in. AND … you can make videos from your PC … excellent. Suggest you get an inexpensive mic to enhance the sound. There’s a free version which will allow you to do a video of up to 30 seconds. The "fee" version is under $40 that has a few more perks to it and where you can make a longer video. One of the highest content webinars I've had – here’s the replay If you're tired of webinars that are all hype and no substance, then you'll be thrilled with the one I just did with Tom Antion. He promised high content that was immediately usable and WOWSA, did he deliver! And we had fun to boot!

Here's what one attendee said:

"This is the best and the most fun webinar I've ever been on and I've been on a lot of them."

Count me in as, "Me too."

The replay is ready right now and I suggest you jump on it immediately because the info Tom presented can increase your business dramatically and quickly. I loved, LOVED the idea he rolled out on making big bucks with PDFs. Immediately, I called out live to three individuals who were attendees ideas that they could do—like in tomorrow—to create a fast, no-brainer, easy-peasy push out to their fans and email contacts. I’ll bet when you hear them on the replay, you will also say, "Hey, me too."

And the magic website to pick up all the elements he revealed is: www.Copywriting901.com

Go for it …

5
Questions of the Week:

Question: I’m working on the back cover copy for my book. Any suggestions?

My answer: In a word: YES. First, create a headline that grabs the potential book buyer’s attention. Not the title of the book. Think emotion, intrigue, maybe a question for fiction books. The title of the book can be repeated in your copy. And do it in bold so it pops out. Your copy doesn’t reveal all—it’s a tease to bring them in. If your book is nonfiction, you are revealing a finding; supplying information; giving solutions. Use bullets and sandwich them with text. Nonfiction authors are problem solvers—bullets can tie into the "pain" that the reader could be experiencing.

Your copy will be less than the number of words on a page in the interior of the book. Typically, there is too much copy—work on dropping to around 200 words for most books. If you include a bio, it’s a shortie—one or two lines. A fuller one is on the About the Author page at the back of your book.
