This Week Under The Book Shepherd’s Roof
Hello and Good Publishing Day to YOU …
Hawaii is on my mind ... and not because it's warm and cold where I live. This past week I received an email from someone who heard me speak 30 years ago in Indiana. She was now based in Hawaii and had reread my book, Woman to Woman, and wanted to know if I would come to Hawaii and speak to an association she was a program chair next spring. Catching up, a date in April was put on hold ... and I was reminded once again how our words as authors and the words we speak have a lasting impact. It’s the pleasure of the platform and what we do.

For years, my family would spend the last week of the year in Hawaii. When my kids were in their early teens, we took them to the Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor. Stunning. Awesome. Heartbreaking. As we traveled back to our hotel home base, the car was quiet, each of us enveloped in our thoughts and what we saw as we looked down into the watery graveyard below our feet.

That night, questions began to flow about the War ... about the times. Eighty-one years have passed—December 7, 1941, when 2,403 service members and civilians lives were cut short. Please remember them—my flag is flying today in their honor on this National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

Don’t miss out on our in-person Holiday gathering this weekend. It’s always fun. Food is good. A few years ago, we moved it from evenings to afternoons. Works better with winter weather happenings. Details below. Registration is on the AuthorYOU.org website.

Today is the last day to say, “I’ll be there on Sunday afternoon for Author Holiday gathering.” No exceptions... this may be the last Holidayfest I host for authors in my home.

And this Saturday will be the final AuthorYOU Salons—in-person and online. See you then.

I’ll be doing an Ask Judith Anything about Publishing and Book Marketing webinar on January 12th to start off the new year. Forward, I’ll be coordinating a monthly informative webinar with an emphasis on a topic—and plenty of time to ask questions and get answers.

And it’s Woof Wednesday ... as an author, marketing is essential, from the get-go. Social media is an essential resource for your book marketing. What are you doing to build your influence?

That’s my week … how’s yours? Lots of happenings below. I continue with my year of Re. My new eBooks are being added. This week—old books coming down.

3 DECEMBER Holiday Gathering: December 11th IN PERSON – Get registered
Ho Ho Ho, Another Year Has Flown By…
It’s time for the Annual AuthorYOU Holiday Party
Join your fellow authors for fun, laughter, great food, interesting gifts, schmoozing, and networking. No need to cook, Judith will have her chef hat on, and will be providing a buffet late lunch. Of course, there will be plenty of beverages to go around. Previous attendees loved having it earlier in the day—it’s December; it’s Winter Solstice approaching; the daylight is getting shorter; and who knows what the weather will be. Personally, I like being able to see clearly where my feet land in the winter months. AND … bonus … for football devotees—you can still see the afternoon games. For shoppers—go for it.

Just bring an unmarked gift to exchange in the off-the-wall Wacko Pick and Steal after lunch. If there are two in your party, bring two gifts so that everyone can leave with something. Be creative! The gifts tend to get pretty wild and fun.

Location: Judith and John’s Home: 8122 S Quatar Cir, Aurora, CO 80016

Gifts: We do an exchange–the Wacko Pick and Steal exchange to be exact; please keep your cost value to less than $20—hot items in the past: wine; nifty gadgets from Home Depot and Costco; sports stuff; movie tickets; goofy and quirky can be fun … please, no rejects from something past.

DATE and TIME: Sunday, December 11th from 1 to ??? IN-PERSON

COST: Members  $20 ... $30 per couple

Question of the Week ... What should authors have as a goal?

Answer: Oh my, let me mention just a few. One thing that I would push for in 2023—this should be the year to pay attention to your website and what it delivers to any visitor. It has three main purposes: Deliver content; build trust; gather emails. So, do a revamp or makeover of your website. Blog weekly with your insights and expertise. Create an opt-in that rests on the upper section of your Home page to capture emails. That should be at the top of your list.

Author Friendly Friday this week …

Join Author Friendly Fridays: a fun, sharing and a dynamic closed group. You can join in the next week. It’s a full hour when you can ask questions—any question. And, I always include a few strategies to get your authoring life ahead of the competition.

It’s for paid subscribers ONLY and we do it on Zoom.

This is how each call starts: I share a few strategies, tips and tools that attendees can immediately start to use. All share … and ask plenty of questions. They get answers. Definitely an excellent way to start a Friday. Those of you who aren’t participating, you are making a mistake. I love the variety of books and authors who have chosen to participate. What’s also fun, is the energy that can be felt with what everyone is working on. Love it!
