Hello and Good Publishing Day to YOU …

The Toss Stuff Out
… decluttering like crazy bug hit me over the weekend. So far, 15 hours worth of pulling out, dumping, shredding, and then repositioning. Out went my desk chair—I don’t use it. A friend had been grumbling about how he hated his chair. Hearing his works multiple times, mine went into the SUV and I drove it over, wheeling it into his house. His lumbar is happy. Out when the heavy-duty chair floor pad. A rug was brought in … and digging through files and shredding continued. And a major discovery bubbled up … something that I knew I had somewhere … but where was the "where" where? I’ve had my eye
peeled for it for, gulp, 10 years … and the mystery was solved on Monday.
April, 1988. People magazine. I was interviewed for my book, Woman to Woman: From Sabotage to Support. Oh my, it landed as a cover story. Inside were four pages about my work. This was a book that was turned down by every major publisher and went on to generate over 700 media interviews—print, radio, TV—had 8 printings, was named the Chicago Tribune’s Business Book of the Year, and created speeches in 50 states and multiple countries. It was a book that Gloria Steinem asked me not to publish.

| So … where are you with your book? Your expertise? Do either tie in with a theme or the name of a product? Could there be a cross promotion you can do together? Could a sponsorship
of you and your book be a possibility? Would the media be interested? Can you create a juicy hook to pull it in? Remember … things happen when YOU TAKE ACTION. Do the ASK.

| Leah Dasalla has been with me for over 10 years as my personal VA … This is our 12th year working closely together and she is taking a big step. She has been an invaluable asset to me and a friend. Next week, she moves from the Philippines with her son to join her husband in San Francisco. A new beginning is in front of her. Her work will change and I look forward to introducing her to my "old life" and some of my closest author friends over the next month. I welcome her to her new adventure and can only wish that all goes amazingly well. Leah is loved by many and will be missed by her family in the Philippines and her heart family here in Colorado. xo

Great evals came from yesterday’s webinar. The tech gremlins were out … but we got the core of the webinar completed before Microsoft’s update fairies decided that 3.35 pm was a good time to upgrade
my computer. Here’s the replay.
- Why it makes dollars and sense to add grocery stores to your book marketing mix.
- How to be invited into the program.
- What an author needs to have at a grocery signing event.
- How to create your author book-selling
tour.
- How you get paid and how often.
- Guidance.

| Question of the Week ... I submitted the manuscript that my publisher committed to, and the editor accepted it, paying the balance of the advance. Now it wants me to change it and write a different book. What should I do?
Answer: If you submitted the book agreed upon in your initial contract, you completed your side. If the publisher now wants a totally different book, it’s a new contract and should be negotiated as such. Don’t cave in here. You delivered what you committed to. Per our conversation, it has two years to publish the book.
