This Week Under The Book Shepherd’s Roof

Hello and Good Publishing Day to YOU …

It’s a goodbye to Friday’s Virtual Happy Hour —it was a fun way to end each week during COVID’s shut-in time. With summer here and outdoor activities picking up (hooray), it’s time to put it to bed. I loved the ideas shared; movie catchups on the streaming venues; recipes and how-tos that were bantered around; and meeting new authors. Thank you to all who participated

Enjoyed the June First Saturday AuthorYOU program last week for organizing your computer, folders, and files for your book. The recording is only available to those who were registered. Thank you for all your kind comments.

Last Friday ended with a weekend jam on my neighbor Phil’s driveway. Over 50 of us in the neighborhood brought our lawn chairs, spreading them out on the street and lawns along with favorite beverages for a toe-tapping … and get up and move around dancing in the street. Music of the 60s and 70s were pulled from the four musicians as they played and sang for two hours. The “kitty” can be out and many hundreds of dollars were donated to one of the Animal Rescue groups. A wonderful way to kick off the weekend.

I was moving my right foot to the music, since the left wasn’t working so well—I thought I had sprained my ankle. On Monday, I finally admitted that I felt miserable and threw in the towel and made my way to the ER. No wonder I wasn’t a full speed—my ankle was broken … and had been for five days—no wonder it was painful and difficult for me to walk or put any weight on it. Now, I’m grounded—no weight on it, heavily booted until the surgery is done netcweek and having to restructure the next month. Good thing that grandson Ryan nailed his driver’s license—he’s now my official gofer and driver. Since my downstairs offices are a no-no, the library upstairs has been converted is a temp until I have stairs access next month. So not on my calendar!

Looking forward to the new webinar on creating workbooks next Thursday. The date needed to be moved from Tuesday to the 18th due to my surgery.
I encourage all of you to tap into this additional resource to repurpose your expertise into an additional product. Details below.

Questions of the Week:

Question: I get stuck in coming with some on dialogues and character traits. Where can I get help?

Answer: What a great question and I’ve got an answer … if you haven’t discovered the series of the writer’s best friend that Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi created and co-authors of 7 bestselling books for writers, including The Emotion Thesaurus: A Writer's Guide to Character Expression (now an expanded 2nd Edition), get your eyes and fingers to Amazon and order all that apply to your type of writing. Your stories, your characters need to be credible to readers, as flawed as they may be. In creating them, it’s important to avoid the dreaded “info dump” that too many writers fall into. But when it comes to describing what happened, many writers jump headfirst into an info dump. Don’t.

You can pick my brain … minimum time is 30 minutes. If you need one-on-one-time with me, I’m always open for a few minutes to give you some quick input. But, and it’s a BIG BUT, many call and expect far more than a few minutes.

This is called a “consult” and I would be delighted to schedule time with you for “just you and your many questions” that need answers. You can book time with me it at:

Author Friendly Friday this week …

Join Author Friendly Fridays: a fun, sharing and a dynamic closed group. You can join in the next week. It’s a full hour when you can ask questions—any question. And, I always include a few strategies to get your authoring life ahead of the competition.

It’s for paid subscribers ONLY and we do it on Zoom.

This is how each call starts: I share a few strategies, tips and tools that attendees can immediately start to use. All share … and ask plenty of questions. They get answers. Definitely an excellent way to start a Friday. Those of you who aren’t participating, you are making a mistake. I love the variety of books and authors who have chosen to participate. What’s also fun, is the energy that can be felt with what everyone is working on. Love it!
