This Week Under The Book Shepherd’s Roof:
Hello and Good Publishing Day to YOU.

This week is all about final prepping for the 5th annual Book Publishing Unplugged event held in Denver. SOLD OUT once again, I’m looking forward working with authors from five states and Canada.

Finally, I’m seeing new leaves starting to pop up on some of my trees after the hail blast we had in my neighborhood a few weeks ago.

As we move into summer time, many of you are aggressively marketing your books at outdoor events. Let’s face it—the weather is usually better, making it easier to get out and about. Don’t forget fall time as well as the other seasons. If you are an author who wants to sell books, marketing needs to be part of your middle name.

So, so honored to be a Bronze Winner for Book of the Year with Foreword Reviews! Here's to the power of How to Create a $1,000,000 Speech! It also picked up the Indie Excellence award and the Independent Press award this past month. Huge, humongous, thanks to Nick Zelinger of NZ Graphics for his awesome book design!

I’ll be taking early bird sign-ups for my all new Book Marketing Unplugged slated for October 18-19 here in Denver. I’m looking forward to delivering a new program.

And I’m looking forward to keynoting the Houston Writers October 5 and deliver a special one-day Unplugged for the authors of Houston on October 4—details will follow.

Looking forward to October and keynoting the Houston Writers plus presenting a special one-day Unplugged event for authors in Texas.

If you write nonfiction and want your book in libraries, appreciated by book reviewers, make sure you include an Index. Yes, you can do it yourself. But, if you want a detailed or cross-referenced one with other sections of your book, you need a pro working with your book.

Indexes are completed AFTER the final proofing of your book and it is formally layed out. It starts with the finished PDF.

Questions of the Week:

Question: : My publisher has gone out of business. What do I do?
Answer: Your website should deliver three things: trust, content, and the ability to capture the visitors name and email address. You do that with delivering trust and content. You capture names and emails be giving some that are free and desirable to the visitor. Offering a free subscription to your newsletter or a chapter in your book is so yesteryear. Come up with "something" that would ease the pain of the visitor—you are about something. What? What’s your expertise? Create an "opt-in" give away that is unique, connects with your expertise and post it on the upper one-third of your Home page. Then create a social media pushout to your platforms—Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc., on an ongoing basis—meaning daily. Your goal is to drive traffic to your website. Offer something that your visitors would want. If they do, they will sign up.
