9 Book Shepherd “Fun” of the Week … Speedy fluffy cat

This Week Under The Book Shepherd’s Roof
Hello and Good Publishing Day to YOU …
Memorial Day weekend is usually the kickoff for summer … yet Summer Solstice isn’t until June 21—next week. In my neck of the world, sunrise is around 5.20 am and sunset at 8.30. For me, having 15 hours of sunlight is my kind of day to bring in the muse; add some running water from the deck fountain, and along with my fave peach iced tea beverage—I’m going to plan a “me” day.

Out in the garden at 7 am to do a little water, I took this snapshot when the fabulous rose smells drifted my way. This is the entry to my back, “secret garden” as my neighbors call it.

One of my ongoing personal goals is to help authors avoid the myriad of mishaps and mistakes that easily slip into the author’s walk. Another is just to be available for friends, and neighbors, who need a helping hand. This past week, a good friend was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. Ugh. Knowing that she loves what a garden and flowers create, yet lacking a green thumb, I cleared my Friday afternoon and texted her asking if it was OK if I took over the planting since none had been done. “Please,” was the response along with a few emojis illustrating that she felt like crap.

Heading to the local garden center, knowing that I needed to feed her eyes and soul first. After all, if one feels like crap, eating isn’t at the top of the list. Food, I can handle blindfolded and would deal with it the next day. Returning, I planted all her front yard pots and then spent five hours tackling the rat’s nest of dead rose vines in all of hers to get the plants breathing again. And watering. From all the bending, my back and legs were screaming—enough!

Fixing dinner for John, the hot shower felt divine, and then sleep arrived. Saturday brought the AuthorYOU Salons and later that night, eight friends over for dinner. Sunday was going to be a day for me—get new eBooks up; tackle the Amazon maze and remove old books, and work on new book. It was not to be. I spent seven hours in the ER with John. This aging thing isn’t fun. He’s better, but ugh.

This week … I’m hoping for no unexpected happenings. That would be a good thing.
Onward …

Question of the Week

Question: What is the #1 piece of writing advice you’ve ever received?

Answer: Read other books within my genre; just write—even if it all gets tossed; don’t worry about “the order” that you write chapters in—it is usually shifted as the book gets close to the finish line; don’t get stuck on how much you write at a time—just write. The more you write, the better the writer you become; the more you write, the faster writer you will become. My take after 45 years of writing: It is true.

You can pick my brain … minimum time is 30 minutes. If you need one-on-one-time with me, I’m always open for a few minutes to give you some quick input. But, and it’s a BIG BUT, many call and expect far more than a few minutes.

This is called a “consult” and I would be delighted to schedule time with you for “just you and your many questions” that need answers. You can book time with me it at: http://bit.ly/JudithCoaching

Author Friendly Friday this week …

Join Author Friendly Fridays: a fun, sharing and a dynamic closed group. You can join in the next week. It’s a full hour when you can ask questions—any question. And, I always include a few strategies to get your authoring life ahead of the competition.

It’s for paid subscribers ONLY and we do it on Zoom.

This is how each call starts: I share a few strategies, tips and tools that attendees can immediately start to use. All share … and ask plenty of questions. They get answers. Definitely an excellent way to start a Friday. Those of you who aren’t participating, you are making a mistake. I love the variety of books and authors who have chosen to participate. What’s also fun, is the energy that can be felt with what everyone is working on. Love it!
