This Week Under The Book Shepherd’s Roof:

Hello and Good Publishing Day to YOU.

YES! I’ve had gardening weather all week and the lure has pulled me out to weed some; cut back the winterkill; nature my seedlings and begin to move them into the garden; enjoy my fav peach ice tea on the lanai. Mother’s Day found me checking out the wintered roses then having the family over for a BBQ. The afternoon, I declared a loaf day and with feet up, dove into a new Michael Connelly book. A great day!

Saturday was a good day for nine authors as we spent the day at one of the Barnes & Noble. Selling books and engaging customers of the store. With the "magic coupon" that was turned in at checkout, we raised over $1,000 to the Aurora Public Library to start the community’s Bookmobile. Huge thanks to authors Kathy Burlake, Dave Westfall, Claudia West, Mara Purl, Natli Van Derwerkin, Suzanne Blankenship, Laurie Weiss along with supporters Ron Beach and Jane Pusch, we had a great day selling books and doing a good thing.

Part 2: Facebook for the Social Media Webinar series was excellent last week with Karen Albert. Next up is LinkedIn. If it’s Thursday, it’s the social media webinar morning.

Are you new to publishing? C J McDaniel is back on our podcast to talk up how to discover products and turn them into influence gathering overnight. Listen in starting Thursday.

Only 3 spots left for Book Publishing Unplugged! Want to morph your author and book life. Join me in June for two fun and deep-diving days at my annual Book Publishing Unplugged event. The dates are June 21-22.

The Hotel is the Hilton Inverness (nice!). June is delightful in Denver and our classroom overlooks a small pond and golf course. Perfecto for learning, a bit of escape and spending two days with me. Space is limited. Early bird rates are on—always new info—come! Join me. Details on website

AuthorYOU Salons is on May 18th—if you are in Colorado—come for coffee or tea … it’s on me. It’s a perfect way to start your Saturday for author savvy and know-how. Details HERE.

It’s the FINAL week to get your nominations in for the Authors for Hall of Fame. Who’s on your list? Don’t forget … it’s the Colorado Author Hall of Fame nominating time. What author(s) have made an impact on your life? What author(s) have been trailblazers in publishing? Have you explored the Colorado Authors’ Hall of Fame? The website is official and live. You all got an eblast on it. We are now posting social media. Blogs are being added. AND go to the site, click on the Nominate tab and NOMINATE an author—living or passed—who has a body of work that has made its mark on readers, on society, on the workplace. Words are powerful. They expand imaginations. They take you places you never thought you would go. They give answers. They make you laugh. Yes, they are powerful.

And, how was your week and what are you planning as you go forward?

If you didn’t it’s a publishing boo-boo. Feedback from Saturday’s in-person gathering was excellent. Several first-timers joined immediately. The online NO PITCH one-hour only webinar that focused on new strategies for the New Year yesterday got "fantastic" feedback. And wait ‘til you see the bundle of goodies and discounts we are starting to post on the website for Members only. All will be up before the end of the month. Yup, it’s a good idea. Not a paid-up member?

And a heads up—hold the FIRST Saturday of each month for our live event meetings—

Author Tools – Two of my new crazy favs …
I love gizmos and gadgets and discovering new tools for we authors. How would you like to create "free" products that you can sell via your website … or use as a "lure" … and opt-in to bring in visitors and turn them into fans via the creation of Cheat Sheets? Bet you would.
Most think that Twitter is just a blast of words and ideas and not much engagement. How would you like to know where your followers come from? Twitter can produce many thousands of followers that are interested in what you have to say. With Tweepsmap, you can discover where they are. One week, I discovered I had 18 new followers from Egypt, a country that had just published my book, The Confidence Factor. It’s a start!

do a "like" and support the power of literacy … have you yet? Don’t delay! LAST week to nominate!
Discover the Colorado Authors’ Hall of Fame. Just launched, it’s ready to celebrate and honor the legacy of authors connected with Colorado.

What authors, you might say or think? And how do they need to be connected? Good questions, here’s how:

·  Authors who have been born in Colorado;
·  Authors who lived at one time in Colorado;
·  Authors who came and come to Colorado as a muse and backdrop to create work;
·  Authors who write about Colorado; and
·  Authors who use Colorado locations as props within their work.

Yes,  authors who have made a difference to millions of readers with revelations, insights, solutions, and amazing storytelling. The Hall wants to ensure that their insight and visionary achievements will not be forgotten.

Effective this month, the Colorado Authors’ Hall of Fame is officially ALIVE via its website. Nominations are now OPEN for the first class of Inductees during the summer of 2019. All genres welcome!

The mission of the Hall is to: honor and promote the works of outstanding published authors from all genres and generations to ensure their legacies will not be lost.

The Colorado Authors’ Hall of Fame is dedicated to recognizing and preserving the history about the accomplishments of past and present authors who have created and published books. Both historical and contemporary authors who have shared their words of wisdom, encouragement, and entertainment are celebrated.

Questions of the Week:

Question: Will libraries my books?

Answer: My question back to you: why wouldn’t they? Have them had a professional’s eyes and hands on them? Edited? Does your cover look good? How about the back copy—does it grab the reader? Libraries want books. Have you pitched to them? Have you asked your fans to request them at their libraries? Do you have them available via a wholesaler (such as Ingram)? Libraries have increased their budgets across the country for print, eBooks and audiobooks. Go for it.
