This Week Under The Book Shepherd’s Roof
Hello and Good Publishing Day to YOU …
WOWSA … the only in-person Speaking Unplugged was a Happy Dance success for all last Friday and Saturday. Huge take-ways. Huge learning, even for “old-timers”. Huge reconnecting. Huge Fun. Huge boo-boo for those who didn’t choose to participate.

Participants loved the photo shoot we did on Friday where ALL came away with wonderful shots that can be used for websites and speaking promo. A gift from creative author photographer Ashlee Bratton and me that far exceeded the price of each participant’s registration. As one wrote in her Feedback assessment: “The entertaining and educating style exceeding my expectations. The workbook is an extraordinary resource.” Others: “I came away with reframing everything I’ve been doing for years.” Next Speaking Unplugged LIVE will be next year.

I’ll be doing an IN PERSON this fall, possibly combining book marketing and social media. Look for an October date that will be identified next week. The take-aways of IN PERSON exceed the Zoom opportunities. I’ll still do them … but clearly, IN PERSON was the grand slam home run for those who were there.

NOTE: John Kremer and I made a decision to move next week’s Tuesday afternoon planned webinar to a Saturday AM—as in this Saturday, three days from now. It’s a long weekend. Yes, some of you are traveling. John Kremer and I aren’t and it’s easier for us—and I have the new Amazon Bestseller workshops starting next week plus other items that are high on my list to get started on. You can register and get the replay if you are or already engaged for the time slot of 9 – 11 AM Mountain Time. You need to register for this pronto. Info below.

AuthorYOU Salons forward, starting in July will be one session online. The other in-person. Early AM will be on the ONLINE/REMOTE ZOOM AuthorYOU members from 7 am Mountain to 8.45 am. IN-PERSON will be in my home from 9 am Mountain to 11 am with flow over possibilities.

You do need to register on the Meetup site for each. Info below.

Another biggie checkoff on my personal home “to do” list. The flagstone walk—all 100 feet of along the river rock side of my home is done. Using New Mexico 1 ½ inch think flagstone, I’m now planting in-between stores for color foliage
next spring/summer. Feeling safer as I traverse up and down the side with watering plants, etc., and not worrying about the wobbly river rock and my ankle.

Barnes and Noble in Colorado store located in Glendale will be hosting FOUR Book Fairs for the Author community… two on July 17-18 and two on August 21-22—dates are Saturdays and Sundays. I need to know NOW if you are interesnted in participating. Those participating, I need your preferred dates, AM or PM, book titles and ISBNs.

And, I’m sticking my neck out and building the calendar through the end of the year. Summer BBQ -August 7th, Author Tea is on it - October 30th, Holiday Celebration-December 4th. Plus more. For all live and in-person events—the rule is you have been vaccinated.
And... watch for announcements about the Colorado Authors’ Hall of Fame. After mega hours with the Nominating Committee members since mid-March, the list was narrowed down and the 2021 Inductees identified. We are enormously excited … I think you will be when they are formally announced, too. Put September 18th on your calendars.

That’s my week … how’s yours? And, please share your news with me so I can shout it out as well.

Have you ever explored the network website where I store all my podcasts? Holy Moly … over 8 million downloads of various podcasts already. Fun watching the download numbers—something that I look at each morning with my hot mug of tea.
Last week, it was all about I explored the WHO, WHAT, and WHY of creating a Crowdfunding program. This week is all about blogging power.

You can select which podcast is for you from over 350 shows and 7,000,000 total downloads since the show started … the latest will always be posted on top of the show page: it goes directly to the Show Page, where you can view all podcasts at once—just scroll … you’ve got a lot to pick from to expand your learning and how to curve.

Add these to your calendar now. Details will all be posted under the Events tab on the website.

Once again, many will be featured at the biggest Barnes & Noble store in Colorado. AuthorYOU and Barnes & Noble have created an AuthorYOU day for their members. Metro Denver book lovers who want to meet, greet and support local authors and bookstores and book-buying will be in the store. It’s a Colorado Authors Hall of Fame support event two weekends in July and August ... both Saturday and Sunday ... at the Colorado Blvd. Barnes & Noble bookstore at 960 Colorado Blvd. in Glendale, Colorado.

Author signings from morning to evening. There will be two tables for signings—two authors at each table and signing times will be 120 minutes each over the weekend.

This is a free event ... but you have to qualify. Will you be one of the featured and promoted authors? If you have questions about the event or would like to be a "featured author", please contact Judith pronto at

Put in the subject line: pick me for Book Fair.

Questions of the Week:

Question: My book won’t be available for three months. When should I start looking for speaking opportunities?

Answer: NOW. An all too common mistake authors make is to wait. Starting pitching YOU as the ideal presenter to a group up to a year before you have book in hand. Associations, book clubs, groups usually book anywhere from 6 months out to two years. Marketing is NOW.

This is called a “consult” and I would be delighted to schedule time with you for “just you and your many questions” that need answers. You can book time with me it at:

Join Author Friendly Fridays: a fun, sharing and a dynamic closed group. You can join in the next week. It’s a full hour when you can ask questions—any question. And, I always include a few strategies to get your authoring life ahead of the competition.

It’s for paid subscribers ONLY and we do it on Zoom.

This is how each call starts: I share a few strategies, tips and tools that attendees can immediately start to use. All share … and ask plenty of questions. They get answers. Definitely an excellent way to start a Friday. Those of you who aren’t participating, you are making a mistake. I love the variety of books and authors who have chosen to participate.
