This Week Under The Book Shepherd’s Roof

Hello and Good Publishing Day to YOU …
November kicked off of a high note. Last Saturday’s AuthorYOU program with Barb Wilson leading off on writing and editing how-to and tips had the element of details to spur bunches of questions from our participants. I added a session on 11 tools to use for author pop in marketing, influence building and much more.
It was a fast and fun morning that stretched to three hours with all the questions—our philosophy is that the presenters do not exit until all questions are answered. The next First Saturday will be  January 2—yup, the day after New Year’s. Note—if there are not at least 10 signups, I will cancel it.

This Saturday, the AuthorYOU Salons is live starting at 9 am MT for two hours. It’s an open mic, bring any question you have and get answers. There is never a specific program – your questions are the program. Sign up now for November through February sessions via our Meetup.com site: www.Meetup.com/AuthorYOUSalons.

Expect AuthorYou and The Book Shepherd programs to be online, at a minimum, through March. We don’t want to put anyone at risk from COVID. It’s still an online world for awhile … and when the “open” finally happens, don’t expect online gatherings to disappear. I do expect them to be less—most I talk with are tired of the “Zoom” option is the only choice. Tip—do yourself a favor and sign in to online meetings at least 10 minutes before the official start. Have you mic ready and video open. Then, when the host opens the meeting, all will be ready to go at once. I like to start and end my meetings on time.

Bravo to Casey Demchak … his excellent “how-to” in creating sizzling satisfying sales and marketing copy enters its second session tomorrow. Feedback from participants has been excellent. Looking forward to session #2 tomorrow.

Drum roll time: Congrats to John Maling for grabbing 7 #1 spots over three days last week on Amazon for his fun kids’ book, The Alphabet Menagerie—It’s Cool to Be a Critter. John participated in my September How to Create an Amazon #1 Bestseller and planned his push out for November 5-7. Love it that he grabbed #1 in Dinosaurs, Dogs, Fish, Small Animals, Humor, Nonfiction, and Poetry!

Yup, my “system” works. Next up is Ron Beach for his book The Virtual Divide slated for eBook launch November 25-27—will be fun to watch how it does.

Results do count … if you want practical publishing and book marketing guidance in grabbing multiple #1 spots, get registered for January’s short but effective 4-week session. If creating an Amazon bestseller is something that you want in your midst … join me for a fun (and I promise, it’s fun, but a true hands-on “learn this and get ready to implement” experience), join me. The November sessions are open to limited enrollment. Ron Beach (The Virtual Divide) and John Maling (The Alphabet Menagerie) will be will rolling out their campaigns this month. The January sessions are open to limited enrollment. We start and end on time--90 minutes each week. Details below.

I’ll be doing three of my Unplugged programs online. On  Janurary 29-30, it’s Book Publishing Unplugged, February 26-27, Book Marketing Unplugged—and introducing Social Media Unplugged for March 26-27.
Each four-hour session will start at Noon. Details will be on the website by next week. Each session will be recorded for registrants who miss or can’t attend via Zoom.

That’s my week and the one coming up … how’s yours?

Have you ever explored the network website where I store all my podcasts? … Holy Moly … over 4 million downloads of various podcasts in 2020 already! Fun watching the download numbers—something that I look at each morning with my hot mug of tea.

This week, Nick Zelinger joins me for a Book Design Snap, Crackle & POP  session to reveal the power of what your book design can do for both you and your book. Lots of info on the AuthorU-Your Guide to Book Publishing podcast. Join me.

Questions of the Week:

Question: Should I have an LCCN?

Answer: Yes—especially if you desire to pitch to libraries. At least twice a month, I get a “help” email from an author that a publisher didn’t apply for an LCCN. What do they do?

Once a book is published, it is out of the gate and too late. Authors need to apply for their pre-assigned number BEFORE publication. What to do? Well, if the author is in control and deems it’s important to have the LCCN … start anew. Revise “something”—a chapter, new cover, pull down a new ISBN—apply again. It comes back quickly via email—add to the © page, along with the ISBN change. Make sure you also alter the bar code on the back cover to reflect the updated ISBN.
