This Week Under The Book Shepherd’s Roof

Hello and Good Publishing Day to YOU …
This Saturday, it’s time for AuthorYOU Salons … are you taking advantage of it? Typically, it’s a freebie in-person gathering of authors at all levels in my living room. Hot coffee and teas are ready. All bring snacks to share and questions flow. The only change is that it’s online for the rest of the year. That means that you supply your own coffee and snacks. Otherwise, have your questions ready; ask them and get answers … from me and the others who are online this Saturday AM … Here’s how to register: https://www.meetup.com/AuthorYOUSalons/ The password is “Judith”.

In a recent survey of authors, I asked what programs did they want to hear going into 2021 … shouting out at the top of the list was marketing and social media help. Yesterday’s blog started with 6 Essential Questions Authors Need to Ask for Book Marketing. Read it HERE:

Loved the wrap up for the online Creating the Amazon Bestseller and now opening up next month’s 4-week session. This is not a PowerPoint webinar. It’s a “hot seat” for the entire 90 minute session. It is a live share my screen; share your screen; I work on your copy so not only do you see what is happening, so does everyone else.; and much more. The next window opens on November 6th—join in; there’s work and it’s worth it. We finish the day before Thanksgiving.

If creating an Amazon bestseller is something that you want in your midst … the November sessions are open to limited enrollment. The September session was fun, informative, and definitely a “how-to” … join me—it’s 90 minutes each week. All participants will be rolling out their pushes before the year is out. Details below.

And, with heavy heart, we’ve moved the 2021 Publishing at Sea cruise to February 26, 2022, that visits three countries in the Southern Caribbean. With COVID—and if I hear one more person say it’s all a hoax and it’s just the flu naysayers —they will be permanently placed in the stupidity column. Several in my national circle have been hit with it. Some quite severe.

So … we are moving our dates and adding changes—a new ship, an extra day … we are even planning a “day off” meaning a total day to just enjoy the gorgeous ship. Eight nights on the Odyssey of the Seas. Check out the details: www.PublishingAtSea.com.

That’s my week … how’s yours?

Have you ever explored the network website where I store all my podcasts? … Holy Moly … over 4 million downloads of various podcasts in 2020 already! Fun watching the download numbers—something that I look at each morning with my hot mug of tea.

This week, I’ll be doing a deep dive into book marketing without spending a dime. My guest is Barb Wilson, editor of many of the books I’ve worked on. We dive into the art of writing with POP and panache. Lots of info on the AuthorU-Your Guide to Book Publishing podcast. Join me.

You can select which podcast is for you from over 350 shows … the latest will always be posted on top of the show page: http://bit.ly/BookPublishingPodcast--it goes directly to the Show Page, where you can view all podcasts at once—just scroll … you’ve got a lot to pick from to expand your learning and how to curve.

Add these to your calendar now. Details will all be posted under the Events tab on the website.

Discover and USE – Computer Glasses

Do you spend lots of time on your computer—whether it’s writing, playing games, even Zooming it—how are your eyes feeling? Mine get tired. I finally, picked up a pair of glasses online that will block the high energy “blue light” and UV that is generated from my screen (including those of you who are glued to a TV and other electronic devices).

I picked up a pair of Gunnar glasses and use when I know I have a long computer day ahead.
Here’s INFO.

Questions of the Week:

Question: How do I get better traction with social media and the posters I create?

Answer: Start with what you are putting on them … are their intriguing images and colors to pull the reader in? What words/phrases/lines are using? Do they create interest to the reader? Is there a link to where the book (if that’s what you are promoting) can be bought? Do you repeat and write out the words on the poster in your message? Do you add the appropriate hashtags? Do you space them out … somethings posters with insights, ahas, wise words with ones that are more “grab my book today”. Then, do you share other insights and blogs of others?

In other words—is your stream as boring as watching grass grow with the same old, same old. Or, are you mixing it up with a variety? Your social media needs a personality. Develop it.
