This Week Under The Book Shepherd’s Roof
Hello and Good Publishing Day to YOU …
Last Saturday’s How to Medium AuthorYOU program was peppered with so much information to position and soar your presence on the platform that has over 60 million eyeballs on it. Always fun. This week is AuthorYOU Salons, also a Zoom adventure, a new podcast on how to sell books by the truckload on Amazon.

Looking forward to kicking off another Amazon Bestseller 4-week workshop today. If you are interested, there is one spot and you need to call me by 2 pm MT TODAY so I can get handouts to you. It starts at 4 MT for 90 minutes.

And hooray and a huge Book Shepherd WOOT to AuthorYou member Deborah Armstrong. Her book, Forever Love, had over 4,200 downloads on Amazon last weekend and a huge claim to #1 status for three solid days, even grabbing spot #38 in the Kindle store.

As I peered over the deckrails this AM, I was thrilled to see a few spots of bulb clusters starting to rear their heads—as in ten so far. Always exciting to see green popping through the cold ground and snow. And … Daylight Savings rolls out THIS SUNDAY, the 14th—set your clocks forward an hour.

Next up in the VIRTUAL world of Unplugged world is the NEW Social Media Unplugged March 26-27. Book Publishing Unplugged will be available in July, in person. Info below, details are on TheBookShepherd.com website.

Watch for the announcement of my new podcast starting next month, Author Insights with Judith Briles … Savvy Secret Interviews. I will be doing awesome one-on-one interviews with individual authors for promotion, marketing tools for authors to use PLUS, my media team will be aggressively pushing out each interview to build traction and support for the author forward. Jazzed as this comes together—I’ve been noodling it for a few years. Work … but fun.

You can find the AuthorU-Your Guide to Book Publishing podcast on Google here: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly90b2dpbmV0LmNvbS9yc3MvcG9kY2FzdC9hdXRob3J1eW91cmd1aWRldG9ib29rcHVibGlzaGluZw

And thank you for many who sent “well wishes” for John. Remember—your voice, your influence, your actions matter. That’s my week … how’s yours?

OH MY ... we are expecting a big snowstorm over the weekend--two feet of the white stuff on my doorstep. Ugh. It's hunker down and in time. No driving. Hopefully, I will get "catch up" items down that John's nine days in the hospital zapped me from completing items on my "to do" list.

Have you ever explored the network website where I store all my podcasts? Holy Moly … we crossed over the 5,000,000 downloads in February! —looks like it will cross 5,000,000 in February 2021! Fun watching the download numbers—something that I look at each morning with my hot mug of tea.

Last week, bestselling children’s author Justin Matott joined me for a fun hour on creativity. Next week, Bestselling author Penny Sansevieri delivers a truckload of tips for how to sell books by the truckload on Amazon.

You can select which podcast is for you from over 350 shows and 5,000,000 total downloads since the show started … the latest will always be posted on top of the show page: http://bit.ly/BookPublishingPodcast--it goes directly to the Show Page, where you can view all podcasts at once—just scroll … you’ve got a lot to pick from to expand your learning and how to curve.

Add these to your calendar now. Details will all be posted under the Events tab on the website.

Goose Your IP Smarts in APRIL … Attend AuthorYOU’s online program—it’s April 3rd … it’s all about intellectual property.
Know your Author and Book Publishing Rights

Knowing your rights and when to call an attorney is important as an author, publisher, vendor, and as a person.
Many times, authors:

· Don’t understand how to read a contract and negotiate the details;
· Don’t know how to use their own or others’ materials (think, pictures, diaries, etc.).
· Don’t understand the use copyrights or trademarks in their books, blog posts, and social media postings.

Copyright laws have recently changed recently … it’s TIME to update what you know; what you thought you know; and what you need to know.
Saturday, April 3, 2021 will provide a practical approach that can save you a lot of money, time, and aggravation.

Julie Bernard … is the CEO of Bernard IP Law. She is a registered patent and intellectual property attorney who brings twenty-five years of experience to the table. Julie focuses her practice on US and international patents, US and international trademarks, copyrights, intellectual property portfolio strategy and management, transactions and licenses, and technology transfer. Questions of the Week:

Question: I’ve changed the cover of my book. Do I need a different ISBN?

Answer: Yes … it’s considered a new book—change on any online retailers, i.e., Amazon—you may need to create a “new” details page. Set it up, and then loop back to Author Central and ask for a call-back—with a phone call, then ask for all to be duplicated to a new page, including any reviews you have.

This is how each call starts: I share a few strategies, tips and tools that attendees can immediately start to use. All share … and ask plenty of questions. They get answers. Definitely an excellent way to start a Friday. Those of you who aren’t participating, you are making a mistake. I love the variety of books and authors who have chosen to participate. What’s also fun, is the energy that can be felt with what everyone is working on. Love it!
