This Week Under The Book Shepherd’s Roof

Hello and Good Publishing Day to YOU …
Can you feel it? I sure can. Time for warm sweats when it’s just me in the office working on Zoom or on my own. Cozy turtlenecks are ready to come out. Tomorrow promises temps dropping into the teens in Colorado. Time to shut the outdoor water down and blow out our sprinklers—wrap the tree trunks, cover up the deck furniture, and do the fall cutbacks in the yard. All planned. It’s always a bummer when this time of the year rolls around for me.

Last weekend was one of digging. My grandkids brought over muscle power and “let’s get this done” attitude and did much of the digging as we planted a few hundred bulbs in my backyard … with promises of rich color next spring. And, I can finally breathe—the full-back deck is done—the one that I had no idea would be built last month.

For authorland, I’m definitely looking forward to the free WORD POWER tomorrow with Casey Demchak and then his intensive 3-week workshops in November. If you want to sell more books—and look like an expert—get signed up for these pronto. All on the AuthorYOU.org website.

The Colorado Book awards are open for submission. In Colorado, it’s the premium book award to win. In 2000, I was honored to pull down the Nonfiction award for my book, Smart Money Moves for Women. To be eligible for submission, a primary contributor to the book must be a current Colorado resident engaged in ongoing literary work in the state, or with a personal history, identity, and literary work that reflect a strong Colorado influence. Books must have been published for the first time in 2020. Exceptions are made for books published in October, November, or December 2019.

Info is here: https://coloradohumanities.org/programs/colorado-book-awards/

If creating an Amazon bestseller is something that you want in your midst …join me for a fun (and I promise, it’s fun), but a true hands-on learn-I can do  this, and get ready to implement experience. The November sessions are open to limited enrollment. The September session went fast, was informative, and definitely a “how to”. We start and end on time--90 minutes each week. All participants will be rolling out their pushes before the year is out. Details below.

That’s my week … how’s yours?

Have you ever explored the network website where I store all my podcasts? … Holy Moly … over 4 million downloads of various podcasts in 2020 already! Fun watching the download numbers—something that I look at each morning with my hot mug of tea.

This week, I’ll be doing a deep dive into social media. I’m solo with lots of info on the AuthorU-Your Guide to Book Publishing podcast. Join me.

Questions of the Week:

Question: Will my book cover sell books?

Answer: According to cover designers, the answer is MAYBE … there are NO GUARANTEES … but there sure are ways to get the odds in your favor. The cover is definitely a draw—the beacon that catches the potential buyer’s eye. For covers, think: less is more. Too many authors clutter up their covers with too, too much—sometimes images; sometimes words.

It’s research time. What are the current books that are selling well displaying? Search Amazon. And, if you can, get to a brick and mortar bookstore. What’s hot? What looks like it’s a trend? Hint—NY books have a “feel/look” to them—fonts, colors, and yes, use of imagery. BBookselling is a competition. Yours should look like it’s in the race.

You can pick my brain … minimum time is 30 minutes. If you need one-on-one-time with me, I’m always open for a few minutes to give you some quick input. But, and it’s a BIG BUT, many call and expect far more than a few minutes.

This is called a “consult” and I would be delighted to schedule time with you for “just you and your many questions” that need answers. You can book time with me it at: http://bit.ly/JudithCoaching

Author Friendly Friday this week …

This is how each call starts: I share a few strategies, tips and tools that attendees can immediately start to use. All share … and ask plenty of questions. They get answers. Definitely an excellent way to start a Friday. Those of you who aren’t participating, you are making a mistake. I love the variety of books and authors who have chosen to participate. What’s also fun, is the energy that can be felt with what everyone is working on. Love it!
