This Week Under The Book Shepherd’s Roof:
These last two weeks have been confusing … it was if there was a half week times two. My body wasn’t sure if it was the front end of the week or the rear end of it with Christmas and New Years landing on Tuesday and so many just throwing in the "time off" towel and declaring a time to step away.

On the final Friday, two things bubbled out: The new membership site (info below) for AuthorYOU and the marathon Ask Judith Anything … a 90-minute Q&A for all things publishing—which was an open-mic with each person on it being able to ask questions and get answers. In reality, it ran two full hours. A replay link is below … in the future, this will become a member benefit to participate under the AuthorYOU umbrella.

So … it’s time to get back to normal. It’s the first week of the new year … and wow—lots happening already in authorland.

For AuthorYOU members, the first NO PITCH webinar will be rolled out on Tuesday, January 8th—invites will be sent directly to AuthorYOU members not available to the public.

And a heads up—hold the FIRST Saturday of the month, each monthprograms are planned for authors who desire to be seriously successful in Colorado. Mara Purl and I will kick off the new year on January 5th—How to create stellar book and author events, celebrations, and "oh so noticed"! Get registered NOW – Early Bird registration ends today, Wednesday. It’s all about author celebrations—with Events and Book Awards. Details below.

ALERT: So many tell me that they NEVER get info from us for months—meaning no blogs, ezine, announcements—literally zip. Make sure that you have Judith@Briles.com and Office@AuthorYOU.org or Bobby@AuthorYOU.org in your address book and clear them as GOOD emails to receive info.

AND … a huge thank you to all for making last year a fantastic one!

How many times have you had a brilliant idea while:

• Driving down the interstate at 70 MPH?
• Standing in line at the checkout?
• On the phone with a prospect, client, or your favorite family member?
• Having cocktails?

You know, in that moment, you should write it down.
Or call yourself and leave yourself a message. Or mention it in a Skype or Messenger chat so you can scroll back through the log and find it later.
Or whatever.

Maybe you DO take down the idea.

Either way, when you fire up that Word doc or pull out that yellow pad and pen to work on your book, you find yourself asking yourself things like:

• "What was that brilliant idea I had at Costco the other day?"
• "I know I wrote it down, but WHERE?"
• "They had COCKTAIL NAPKINS and PENS for crying out loud... why didn't I use them?!?"

Just the frustration of trying to remember that brilliant idea can cause writer's block. How? You're reluctant, either consciously or subconsciously, to write because …

NO MORE after this all-new webinar with Dan Janal, creator of PR Leads and on the original marketing team that brought us all, "You've Got Mail" ... Your next book ... blog ... your whatever will be doing a happy dance after this hour.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. And YES, it will be recorded. Make sure you register so that you get it.

Eight Doable Tips for Author Goal Setting this Year …
Goals-identify them …
a good thing to do for any author who wants to be seriously successful!

A few "authoring and publishing" years ago, I completed Snappy Sassy Salty: Wise Words for Authors and Writers. This week, the first of January 2019, Snappy Sassy Salty still stands as one of my favorites. Why? Because it is woven with quotations to kick-start and propel authors and writers forward. Owners of the book have shared photos of quotes they have copied and post in their offices and phones to support them on their publishing and authoring quests. It’s the goose many of us need to re-juicing, inspiration, motivation, dealing with rejections, moving forward … the list is endless.
If you are going to succeed in this writing, authoring, publishing arena, you need to be kick-started and refueled to propel your forward. That means YOU.

Questions of the Week:

Question: What should an eBook be priced at?

Answer: It depends. The sweet spot for fiction appears to be in the $3.99 to $4.99 area … although traditional publishers have been pricing them from $8.99 and up. Remember, you max payout is in the $2.99 to $9.99 range. Outside of either, you get half. For nonfiction, eBook prices tend to be $5.99 to $9.99. With that said, if you are doing a launch, you may reduce the price down to zero as a magnet to "buyers", then increase the price within a few days.
